Gargoyles Overview
The Show:
In 1994, a new show debuted on the Disney Afternoon. It was unlike anything the line-up had shown before. A race of beings known as Gargoyles, having the forms and faces from our nightmares but holding the purpose to protect, lived side-by-side with humans in ages long past. But given that humanity always fears and destroys what it cannot understand, this alliance was doomed.
A band of Vikings sacked Castle Wyvern, Scotland in 994 with help from traitors within. They destroyed the clan of gargoyles living there, all except seven. Six of these survivors rescued the humans that despised them and were trapped in a spell "to sleep until the castle rises above the clouds." Big trouble since gargoyles turn to stone statues when they sleep.

Fast forward to 1994. David Xanatos--armed with knowledge of this spell--bought Castle Wyvern and transported it to New York City. He rebuilt it on top of his new skyscraper, the tallest on the island of Manhattan. And the spell was broken and six medieval gargoyles found themselves in a strange new world. It was still one filled with betrayal as Xanatos and the mate of the clan's leader reveal their villainy.
But it is also a world with hope. The gargoyles make friends with humans and over the course of the show discover that they are not the last of their kind. All while protecting the innocent from the horrors of the night of their new home, Manhattan.
Gargoyles had three seasons lasting from 1994 to 1997. It was the brainchild of Greg Weisman, and found fans from all over the world. Most of these fans--heck, all of them--were deeply upset by Disney's cancellation of the show. Some of them got together in 1998 and formed The Gargoyles Saga, a fanfic series starting after the third season episode "The Journey" (the last episode Greg Weisman worked on) and developing some of the spin-off ideas that Greg has shared with us.
Four series are being written under The Gargoyles Saga.
Gargoyles continues with the present-day adventures of the Manhattan
Clan; Pendragon is the present-day adventures of King Arthur;
TimeDancer is Brooklyn's forty years worth of adventures hopping around history with an out-of-control Phoenix Gate; and Dark Ages shows life at Castle Wyvern two decades before the Viking Massacre.
What You Need to Know to Enjoy My Stories:
I like to hope that my stories don't need a complex explanation to be read, comprehended, and enjoyed. But I also believe in hedging my bets. What I really want to encourage people to do is watch the episodes (or read them in the case of The Gargoyles Saga), so if you have never seen these episodes I recommend the Gargoyle-Fans Site's Episode Summaries. They give you a synopsis of the action and a review of the episode. Like I said before, I hope my stories stand well on their own but this is the back history the characters are operating within.
